Gruffalo - our class assembly

We all stand together!
We all stand together are the last words to the song, Frog's chorus. The words represent how Reception Bears have bonded together and have made such a fantastic team.

Here you can see Paul McCartney's song at the end of our dress rehearsal.

Halves and Doubles

Half the class is 5 while half the class is already 6.
With today's birthday, 6 children are 6 years of age.
I asked the birthday girl how she knew she was six.
She answered, she knew because before she was 5
and now she was one year older.

Recently we have been learning about halves and doubles.
These were some of the number facts we revised:
3 is half of 6
6 is half of 12
6 is double 3
12 is double 6
It was nice to see the children identify an application
for what they have learnt.

Nine o'clock for an 8:55 start

At nine o'clock, the hour hand is on the 9
and the minute hand is on the 12.
Resultado de imagem para nine o'clock
At 9 o'clock I seem to have only
9 children in the class instead of 12.
Please lets strive to be more punctual.

Last but not Least

Cenas Infantis was the last workshop at
Casa da Música for Reception Bears.

As soon as we walked in the room we were asked to

stamp, stamp, clap, pause (1234).
Once the children had picked up a good pace,
a melody could be heard:
The six suits for unaccompanied cello - J.S.Bach.

The children were asked to create sounds, follow visual and aural instructions at the same time as clap, stamp, dance or play simple instruments. The musicians who guided us, helped us through sections of these pieces from the Baroque to Contemporary.
We worked both sides of the brain simultaneously.

This is a small sample of the end of the session:

World Book Day

These were the ingredients for a great celebration:
We came dressed up as a character from a book.

Mr Hooley came to read "The Gruffalo" - one of the many stories we will be reading this term by Julia Donaldson.

You can hear the story:

In the afternoon Mr Padden and his class invited us down to Form 4P to listen to some stories. Thank you Form 4 - that was lovely.

Happy Birthday, Birthday Girl

I live in this beautiful place

Over the past few months the class have been looking at some of the architectural features of Oporto / Portugal.
From sketches to tracing and painting, not forgetting ICT.

To culminate the project, we made a collective collage to celebrate the typical "Calçada Portuguesa."

The children also wrote about what they feel about the place we live in.

You three ways

Today the children were writing a message.
They needed the word: 'You'

Maria spelt it:  ioo
Suhani spelt it: yo
Rodrigo spelt it: yoo

It will be interesting to find out who remembers
the correct spelling tomorrow.

Brave Ted

On Saturday Ted went for a blood test.

And then went for a ride in the park.

On Sunday Ted went with ******'s Dad to a Father's day race
and even won a medal!

A relaxing weekend

Some weeks ago, Ted had a relaxing weekend sorting stickers.

Ted never expected to have so much fun playing cards.

That was difficult! Phew

Yesterday children were folding BIG sheets of tissue paper to make the Truffula Tree tufts, when Sofia sighs and says: "That was difficult!"
"It is difficult to fold those sheets, but you tried and you did it. If you try you can do...", I was interrupted by Rodrigo: "ANYTHING."

Yes it is so true:
If you try, you can do anything!

Castles and Dragons

This was a time to think about Princes and Princesses.
These are some tasks we worked on:

We wrote our own stories

We drew some castles using Paint

Reception Bears developed Mathematics and Fine Motor skills in weaving these beautiful castles.

A big thank you to João's Mummy for putting the cushions together.

Please enjoy the culmination of our project:

José Pedro's number search

Sweet and Musical

On Saturday Ted surprised us with a raspberry cake for Mum's birthday.

On Sunday we went to Casa da Música to attend the Viva Vivaldi show.
We were amazed for we had never seen such radiant beauty before.
Then we blinked and saw ******!

We had a wonderful time!

Did anyone else go to see the show?
