Ted at the Grape Harvest and Medieval Fair

Ted went to the Vindimas.
He rode a tractor to the vineyard, picked grapes,
but did not quite make it to treading them.

Ted went to the Medieval Fair and got crowned King Ted.

Armstrong and lice

We heard a song by Louis Armstrong and Dhruv was very impressed, he said, "wow ele é forte!" (he is strong).

Today I reminded **** to tie her hair as there are cases of head lice in school (as well as it being a school rule). Luca asked, "Os totós têm um cheiro especial para afastar os piolhos?" (Do the rubber bands have a special smell to detract lice?"

Happy Rosh Hashanah

Today is the first day of the year 5775
in the Jewish calendar. Rosh Hashanah - head of the year.
Each of us made a "shofar" to call everyone to the celebrations.
We ate apple dipped in honey. It was yummy!
The children kept asking for more.
We eat through a bag full of apples.

Badger, skunk and anteater

In the story Lourenço brought to school today there was a badger.
Because a badger (texugo) is not a familiar animal I showed them a photograph. (below)

Maria said it was a skunk (hence the next photo)

We talked about what a badger would eat and it got called an anteater.
So out comes a photo of an anteater!
I explained how the anteater uses its long nose and long tongue to collect the ants.
Lourenço said: Eia, parece um aspirador! (it is like a vacuum cleaner).

Can you talk about how these animals compare to each other?
In what way are they similar? How do they differ?

Playing with sounds

In the last couple of days we had 2 fantastic spelling contributions

ielo by Rodrigo  (yellow)

apul by João  (apple)

This means they have used the sounds they know and have attempted to spell the words on their own. :)

All the bears have now finished their card bear in a forest of painted trees.
They look so good on our wall.
You will be able to see them tomorrow when you come to the information

This is Suhani's bear walking through the trees.

Ted's first adventure

Ted went to the beach this weekend.
Ted wore a helmet when he went cycling.

Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock 1912-1945, was an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement.

Reception Bears explored some of Jackson Pollock's techniques.
They used words such as: drip, pour, splash, action painting, squeeze....
as well as revising the names of colours.

Jackson Pollock considered the whole canvas important.
The children filled the whole screen with different colours at:
