Half the class is 5 while half the class is already 6.
With today's birthday, 6 children are 6 years of age.
I asked the birthday girl how she knew she was six.
She answered, she knew because before she was 5
and now she was one year older.
Recently we have been learning about halves and doubles.
These were some of the number facts we revised:
3 is half of 6
6 is half of 12
6 is double 3
12 is double 6
It was nice to see the children identify an application
for what they have learnt.

Fun with Smarties leads to number stories
What can we do with a box of 'Smarties'?
Sort them!
Sort them!
Then we can count them!
After counting, add the sets together.
After all the hard work we can do the inevitable - we can eat them!
It was all fun and games. Now we can do all these sums!
Well done!

Pyjama Day in Reception Bears
Our aim was to get a good day's sleep. First of all we had a bedtime snack: school made jam tarts, cottage biscuit and milk.
Before going to bed we all brushed our teeth.
We had a bed time story.
We counted sheep.
We lay down in bed.
But we could not sleep - we had
too much energy so we rolled out of bed.
Jumped on the bed
Designed a nightie or a pair of pyjamas in ICT
Ate bananas in pyjamas
YUM!
One would have thought that going to sleep
would be an easy thing to do...
Reception Bears were able to raise over
100 Euros to sponsor fostering children
who do not have a family.
Thank you Bears!

The Creation of the World
This was the focal point of our Topic work
in the first half term. It was a great opportunity to learn about
the wonderful world we live in.
Among other activities these were some of the highlights:
Let there be Light! - Exploring light and dark.
On Day 3 God made the dry land appear and ordered that grass and trees should grow. We found a fun way to make trees.
For the 4th day we used milk to make
some stars for our Milky Way.
We explored the BIRD page at www.poissonrouge.com
The school library had lots of books on mammals.
We took some books on loan so we could find out more about mammals at home.
Mr Evans came to visit our class. He said, "Good morning children."
We said, "Good morning Mr. Evans, you are a mammal!
We are all mammals!"
These are our drawings of ourselves in our wonderful world.

God separated the waters above and below an expanse. This is how we made the water under the heavens. We made sure the strips of paper were aligned to one side on the paper. Once it was dry we printed different circular shapes to make the foam and bubbles across the top.

We made some moons from cheese, inspired by Wallace and Gromit's Grand Day Out. We thought it was very funny to think that the moon could be made of Cheddar, Stilton or.... Queijo da Serra!
Day 5 - We had a closer look at fish in the primary kitchen.
Rodrigo was inspired by all that talk on fish
and drew this picture.
