The Lighthouse Keeper's lunch

The story: (click on the image)

Reception Bears walked down to the
Forte de São João da Foz to understand
the importance of a lighthouse on the safe
navigation of ships and sailboats.

After the walk, nothing like a lighthouse keeper's sandwich.

Now, some time for sketching.

 All done for today,
we are on our way
back to school.
We were able
to name the landmarks
in this shop window.

These were some of our sketches:

by Lourenço

with sound effects
by Maria

with the brick work
by Constança

High in the Sky

Where does the sky start? Where does the sky end?

Who cannot remember folding
 paper planes as a child?

Form 5 B

Form 5 B prepared a session with stories and role play situations to help Reception think how they could be better friends.

Thank you

Viarco and Paper Mill

Viarco
is possibly the smallest pencil factory in the world.
We were able to see the various stages of pencil making (as they were made 100 years ago.

Museu do Papel
On the same day, we visited the The Paper Mill,
where we could see how paper used to be made.
It is a beautiful place, renovated with care.
We wished we could have stayed there longer.

The water that makes the mill go round

The materials used - cloth made from natural fibers

The drying room was followed by the packing and paper bag making areas.
We will need to go back to see how paper is made today!

Curls

We were painting today. The paper curled and I took the opportunity to show how we could flatten it again.
Someone asked what 'curl' meant.
I explained, giving several examples, one of which was:
João has curly hair.
Dhruv asks, "Did you go to the hairdresser to make the curls forever?"

I want to be...

Suhani was helping another child with some maths and I asked if she wanted to be a teacher. She answers, "No, I want to be a hairdresser."

João makes the comment: "I want to be a teacher."
I asked João why he wanted to be a teacher and his answer was:
"I like to learn." (that is the best answer and I do agree, we learn all the time)

Zé Pedro, "I want to work at McDonald's
Grace said, "I want to be a doctor."
Maria said, "I want to be a teacher too."

Lourenço without being asked said, "I want to be a boy."
